Our Trainers

Sharon is the Deaf Culture Specialist, Lead Tutor & Trainee BSL Translator at The Inclusivity Group, working across the group to support access and inclusion.

She is also a qualified British Sign Language teacher, teaching BSL Levels 1, 2 and 3, along with deaf and Disability awareness training courses.

She has almost 30 years of experience working with deaf and disabled people and previously worked with Local Authority for many years, where she worked directly with young deaf people and deaf adults to improve their opportunities in life.

Introduction to BSL

Our introduction to British Sign Language (BSL) course is a six-week course aimed at starting your journey into BSL, whilst learning everyday essentials such as:

  • Greetings
  • Fingerspelling
  • The Alphabet
  • Numbers
  • Colours
  • Family
  • Weather

The course is ideal for individuals, groups of friends, workplaces and community organisations. 

The course can be tailored to your individual needs and include specialist training for your workplace.

Course Details:

Venue: Unit D4, Phase 4, Plymouth Science Park, 18 Davy Road, PL6 8BX

Training Dates: Friday 27th June – Friday 1st August

Time: 10:00 – 12:00  

Career Progression

British Sign Language can be studied as a hobby, to support creating a more accessible society, or even as a new career or part of career development. Some careers that could be a possible route include:

  • Special educational needs (SEN) teaching assistant – approximately £18,000 to £22,000 per year (dependent on experience)
  • Communication Support Worker – approximately £25,000 per year (dependent on experience)
  • Special educational needs (SEN) teacher – approximately £30,000 to £46,000 per year (dependent on experience)
  • British Sign Language teacher – approximately £26,000 -28,000 per year (dependent on experience)
